MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR MAN

BOTOX® Cosmetic

Botox for Men is a Popular Cosmetic Procedure
BOTOX® aren’t just for women. Men are also realizing the importance of looking their best at any age. Neuromodulators relax the muscles, smoothing deep lines and folds that are caused by a lifetime of facial muscle contractions.

There are many areas that men’s Botox can be used to treat:
  • Smoothing forehead frown lines
  • Crows feet
  • Reducing gummy smiles
  • Lifting nose tips
  • Eyebrow raising
  • Jowl reduction and neck tightening
  • Hyperhidrosis (Excessive sweating)
Pre-Treatment Instructions
  • Don’t consume alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to your treatment as alcohol may thin the blood and increase your risk of bruising.
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications for a period of at least 2 weeks before treatment as they can increase the risk of bruising and swelling after injections.
  • Scheduled your Botox appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event you may be attending, such as a wedding or vacation, since the results can take up to 4-7 days to appear.
  • Discontinue Retin-A 2 days before and 2 days after your treatment.
  • Reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance if you have a rash, cold sore, or blemish on the treatment area. (If you have a history of cold sores, talk to your provider as they may put you on antiviral medication prior to treatment.)
  • Be sure to have a good breakfast, including food and drink, before your cosmetic treatment. This will decrease your chances of lightheadedness during the treatment.
  • You are not a suitable candidate if you’re breastfeeding or pregnant.
Post-Treatment Instructions

In order to reduce the amount of bruising and/or swelling you might get from the injection sites following your Dermal Filler treatment, please follow the instructions below:

  • Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area, unless instructed by the provider.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Avoid extensive sun or heat for at least 72 hours after your treatment. When out in the sun, remember to wear sunblock (SPF 30 or higher) and a hat.
  • Avoid consuming excess amounts of alcohol or salts to avoid excess swelling.
  • If you have swelling you may apply a cool compress for 15 minutes each hour.
  • Use Tylenol for discomfort.
  • Try to sleep face up and slightly elevated if you experience swelling.
  • Take Arnica to help the bruising and swelling and start at least 2 days prior to injections.
  • Until the swelling and redness have resolved, avoid intense heat in the treated area(s). This includes sunbathing, tanning, saunas, hot tubs, or hot wax. Also, avoid extreme colds such as skiing or other winter sports.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers for men is a Popular Cosmetic Procedure

Another treatment popular with our male clients is Dermal filler treatments. Dermal fillers effectively reduce and soften the appearance of lines and wrinkles, create volume to lift and to contour.

And again, all of these can be carried out very quickly during a lunchtime or after work. Popular treatments for men are:

  • Cheek contouring
  • Chin and jaw line definition
  • Non-surgical rhinoplasty
  • Eye rejuvenation (dark hollows and circles)
  • Deep lines and scars
Pre-Treatment Instructions
  • For optimal results, and to minimize the chance of bleeding or bruising at the injection site, please avoid all blood-thinning medications and supplements for one week prior to your appointment. This includes over-the-counter medication such as aspirin, Motrin, ibuprofen, and Aleve. Also avoid herbal supplements such as garlic, vitamin E, ginko biloba, St. John’s Wort and omega-3 capsules. If you have a cardiovascular history, please check with your doctor prior to stopping use of aspirin.
  • Inform your provider if you have a history of Perioral Herpes to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment. (Valtrex 500 mg BID, 5 days, start 2 days prior to treatment)
  • Avoid topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A) retinols, retinoids, glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, or any “anti-aging” products for two days before and after treatment.
  • Do not drink alcoholic beverages 24 hours before or after your treatment to avoid extra bruising.
  • Do not use dermal fillers if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to any of it’s ingredients or suffer from any neurological disorders.
Post-Treatment Instructions
  • Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area unless instructed by provider.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Avoid extensive sun or heat for 72 hours.
  • Avoid consuming excess amounts of alcohol or salts to avoid excessive swelling.
  • If you have swelling, you may apply a cool compress for 15 minutes each hour.
  • Use Tylenol (acetaminophen) for discomfort.
  • Try to sleep face up and slightly elevated if you experience swelling.
  • Take Arnica (typically found in health food stores) to help the bruising and swelling. Begin taking at least two days prior to injections.
  • Wait a minimum of four weeks before skin care or laser treatments.

Dermal fillers last, on average, 6-12 months. It is recommended at the time of your treatment to schedule your next appointment for optimal anti-aging benefits. The most typical side effects (bruising, swelling, redness) are temporary and will resolve. However, please call the office to notify us if you experience any additional side effects.
